How to set a stop-loss and target (SL/TGT)

Protect trades automatically — set a stop-loss, a target, or a time-based exit on any position with SL/TGT. Here's how it works on Nifty Paper Trade.

A stop-loss (SL) auto-closes a trade if it moves against you by a set amount — the single most important risk-management tool. A target (TGT) auto-books profit when the price reaches your goal. On Nifty Paper Trade both are set from the SL/TGT button on any position.

How to set SL/TGT

  1. Open Positions and tap SL/TGT on the trade.
  2. Enter a Stop-Loss price (where you'll cut the loss).
  3. Optionally enter a Target price (where you'll book profit).
  4. Optionally set a time exit (auto-close at a set time).
  5. Save. The platform monitors the live price and exits automatically when any condition hits.

Why use it

Practising SL/TGT discipline here — with virtual money — is the fastest way to build habits that protect real capital later.

FAQ

Does the stop-loss work when I'm offline?

Triggers are checked against live prices while the app is connected. Build the habit here, and always confirm behaviour before relying on it with real money.

Can I set only a target without a stop?

Yes — you can set a target, a stop, or both, plus an optional time exit.

What's a time-based exit?

An auto-close at a chosen time (e.g. square off intraday before close) regardless of price.
